Flat Bottom Woks

The western electric range have been designed to use a flat bottom wok as the round bottom woks can reflect heat back on the element, causing damage to it. The flat bottom woks can also be used on gas stoves. Previously these woks came with two metal handles with enabled easy lifting of the wok from the traditional Chinese wood stove.

But now the flat bottom woks have a long wooden handle like that of skillet that makes it very easy for lifting and moving. It can be moved and tilted during stir-frying. Some flat bottom wok comes with a helper handle on the other side to make it easier to lift.

With the increasing consciousness regarding low fat diet many manufacturers are turning their attention in manufacturing woks with a non-stick coating where food can be prepared with less oil. The quality of the best non-stick wok depends on the individual coating and how it is applied. But it has come to light that non-stick coating doesn’t works effectively on the carbon steel. But one thing, which holds true for all types of wok, is to use it after seasoning. It removes the preservative oil placed by the manufacturers on the wok to avoid rusting and is replaced with the light coating of cooking oil. And also clean your wok after every use.
