Everyone wants to have a quick and hassle free cooking and desire to spend less time in the kitchen, but without compromising with the taste and nutritive value. For this reason many people opt for steaming which is the traditional Asian cooking technique good for health. By steaming one can preserve the nutrients of the food that are destroyed by micro waving, pressure-cooking and boiling. The steamer rack used for steaming in a wok holds the food over the simmering water and circulates the steam and allow the food to cook.
The steamer rack can be used in a wok in the following manner
Put sufficient water in a wok and place a rack on it. See to it that the steamer is placed one inch above the water and bring to boil. It is very necessary to line the steamer with clean damp cloth (preferably the dish towel), fresh greens like lettuce or napa cabbage if not a parchment paper to avoid food from sticking. Put a cover on the steamer and a lid on the wok. Keep check of the water level from time to time but care should be taken while seeing the water level as it may it can burn your fingers. When you open the lid allow the steam to escape and then add water or remove food from the steamer.
